Grandparentage Testing
Grandparentage testing is an option for those who would like to determine paternity but cannot test the alleged father because he is missing or deceased. Beta Paternity can indirectly determine a child’s relationship to the alleged father through the alleged father’s biological parents. To prove this family relationship, we compare the portion of the child’s DNA that is passed down from the grandparents through the father.
Tested Parties
Both parents of the alleged father need to be tested together with the child. The child’s mother may or may not participate; however, motherless tests are more costly and require a longer time for testing and analysis. If you require a test for immigration, Social Security, or other legal purposes, please visit the legal testing option page. While convenient and private, sample collection using the Beta Self-Collection™ kit does not follow the Chain of Custody collection procedure needed for DNA test results to be accepted in courts and other government agencies. This procedure requires you to go to an appointment to have your samples collected by an unbiased third party, usually a trained professional.
