Only legal paternity testing is accredited by the AABB.

Many online paternity testing companies will try to impress you by displaying the logos and symbols of various accreditation bodies on their websites. These accreditation bodies only inspect the chain of custody testing process, however. Home paternity testing is not overseen by any accreditation body.

The chain of custody process is what distinguishes a home paternity test from a legal paternity test: A legal paternity test follows the chain of custody, while a home paternity test does not. Courts and other government agencies only accept DNA tests that follow the chain of custody process, so home paternity tests cannot be used for legal purposes (e.g., child support or child custody).

The American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) is the accrediting body that establishes standards for paternity testing laboratories that follow the chain of custody process. Most courts and government agencies require DNA testing laboratories to be accredited by the AABB for their test results to be legally defensible. But again, home paternity testing laboratories are not regulated by any accreditation agency.

Home paternity testing companies that proclaim their accreditation by the AABB are making false claims. Such false claims may make you wonder if the companies are being straightforward about their services in general.

Beta Paternity’s home paternity test follows stringent measures that exceed the standards set by accreditation bodies. More clients trust Beta Paternity for its many advantages, including the fact that we own and operate our own laboratory and we guarantee accurate and fast paternity test results.
