DNA Profiling
Beta Paternity offers DNA profiling services for those who would like a permanent record of their genetic profile. DNA profiles can be used in future DNA tests should the need ever arise for identification or verification of family relationships. You can also choose to take advantage of our DNA banking service for free if you order our DNA profiling service.
In today’s environment, it is best to take every precaution and ensure safety and security for yourself and your loved ones. The following are reasons individuals or families choose our DNA Banking and Profiling Services:
- To assist in finding the trail of a missing loved one
- To provide a means of identification for those who work in high-risk situations, such as construction workers, firefighters, pilots, those traveling overseas, and others
- To have a complete medical genetic history source on hand for future DNA testing (banking only—for example, testing for inherited diseases and other physical characteristics)
Service Details
We perform a DNA test on your sample to generate a DNA profile—a permanent record of your identity. Your profile report will list the sizes of particular DNA segments called markers. These markers are specific locations on the DNA that have been determined by scientists to be unique and important for human identification. Your profile includes 16 DNA markers, including the 13 core CODIS markers considered worldwide as the gold standard in human identification.
Sample Collection
We will send you a Beta Self-Collection™ kit containing everything you need to collect DNA samples. Sample collection is painless and simple. You will use buccal swabs, which are like long cotton swabs, to collect loose cheek cells by rubbing against the inner cheek. For more details, please visit the sample collection page.
For extra security, you may want to have your DNA collected in such a way that the results of any future testing on the DNA can be used in a legal proceeding, such as inheritance claims. If you are interested in this option, please visit the legal testing option page. While convenient and private, sample collection using the Beta Self-Collection™ kit does not follow the Chain of Custody collection procedure needed for results to be accepted in courts and other government agencies. This procedure requires you to go to an appointment to have your samples collected by an unbiased third party, usually a trained professional.
